Dual-Drive

Two screens, one drive

A proof of concept for in-vehicle collaboration: the passenger finds a destination, a car park or a hazard and offers it to the driver, who accepts or declines it from a head-up display without taking their hands off the wheel. Open both screens to try it.

Passenger screen →

The centre console. Search places, adjust climate, send a suggestion to the driver.

Driver HUD →

The head-up display. Shows what the passenger sent; left and right arrow keys stand in for the steering-wheel controls.

  1. Open the passenger screen and choose Create a drive.
  2. Note the six-character room code in the top bar.
  3. Open the driver HUD in a second window, ideally on a second device, and join with that code.
  4. Send a place from Maps, Parking or Hazard, and answer it on the HUD.

The two screens pair through a small sync server on a free host that sleeps when nobody is using it. The first pairing after a quiet spell can take up to a minute while it wakes; if the screens say they cannot reach the server, wait a moment and try again.
